The students at Grace Christian School were recently gifted with dictionaries of their very own, compliments of the Leon Valley Grange. This agriculturally based Community Service organization promotes education of the youth of Texas with The Dictionary Project. In addition to word definitions, these dictionaries include The Constitution, a brief synopsis of each President, as well as facts about each state.

Lauryn Taylor Martin is engaged to James Matthew Jordan. The Mason Junior High eighth grade class recently held elections for class officers. Those elected by their classmates are: President Ethan Powell, Vice-President Zach Norman, Secretary Joshua Fluhmann, Reporter Anna McMillan,Treasurer Raegan Glentz and Parliamentarian Sydney Anderson. As class officers, these students will be responsible for the 9-11 Ceremony, helping host the Jr.

I apologize that I missed the deadline to submit this article last week. I forgot about the Labor Day holiday. Having said that, I think we are off to a great start all around. The Elementary/Jr. High Back to School Bash was a huge success. Thanks to all the students and parents who attended.

Mason Ray Jaquez would like to announce the birth of his baby brother, Maxon Daniel Jaquez. He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on August 16,2014. He weighed six pounds, three ounces and was 20 inches long. Parents are Conrado & Jennifer Jaquez of Corpus Christi,Texas. Grandparents are Ray & Cynthia Jaquez of Mason and Daniel & Becky Palacio of Brady.

The Tocker Foundation has awarded a $49,988 grant to the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library. The grant will fund Phase II of the interior renovation project begun with a 2011 Tocker grant. The funds will be used for updating the children’s area, purchasing computer stations with task chairs, adding a new seating area for Wi-Fi and laptop users, new signage, and upgrading the circulation area.

Over 500 Central Texas Electric Co-op customers, members and spouses, gathered in the Fredericksburg High School Auditorium on August 19, as CTEC hosted its 67th Annual Members’ Meeting. CEO Robert A. Loth III welcomed them and introduced Board President Gerald Kaspar and the ten other CTEC directors. Elena Ramon has been awarded the Dr. Bob Gallaway ‘42 Endowed Scholarship by the Dwight Look College of Engineering and the Honors Challenge Scholarship at Texas A&M University. Both of these scholarships are awarded for excellent academic achievement. Elena is a sophomore civil engineering major with a 3.96 GPA. Her parents wish her and her brother Julio the best of luck at Aggieland this year.

Where did the summer go? It has been extremely busy this summer at Mason ISD. One of the most important tasks was to complete the hiring of the staff. We have several new teachers and other personnel this year. The response to listing of personnel in the newspaper last year was very positive, so I thought I would do it again.

The Llano River Bed and Breakfast is open and welcoming visitors, and the Mason County Chamber of Commerce welcomed them with an official ribbon cutting last week. After an unexpected closing of Raye Carrington's bed and breakfast last summer, it is with great pleasure that the owners announce the opening of the Llano River Bed and Breakfast.

Last week, the Mason County Chamber of Commerce held an official ribbon cutting to welcome their newest member business, The Line Shack. The Line Shack is a new café in town specializing in beef and seafood. They’re located at 805 San Antonio St, and they are open Wednesday through Sunday beginning at 11:00 a.m.

For the past fifteen years, Steady Steps, a non-profit child care center, located at First United Methodist Church has provided nursery and childcare services to the Mason community. Our goal is to provide a program that allows children to develop emotionally, socially and physically. Part of children’s development is through active play time.
