Mark Hurta, just returned from his second contract with Norwegian Cruise Line. First contract was on the Gem out of New York City, where I went to the Caribbean and the Bahamas. I received Vacation Hero for the photography department. Vacation Hero is “a crew member that has been the “Hero” of your vacation by delivering exceptional service.” My second contract was out of Boston and Tampa where the photography team received the Outstanding Team Award and I received Vacation Hero.

Tom and Susan Doell have been restoring the Hilda Lutheran Church located on their ranch. They want to put the steeple back on the church building. The cross that went on top of the steeple is displayed at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mason. They could measure it and create a replica.

The Heart of Texas Country Music Association will celebrate its 25th Anniversary on March 21-29, in Brady. The Association grew from KNEL’s Hillbilly Hits Radio show in Brady, to encompass an over 1,000 member organization, the Heart of Texas Country Music Museum, Heart of Texas Records, the Heart of Texas Recording Studio plus regular performances staged in Brady, Llano, Seguin, Mason and Marble Falls throughout the years. San Antonio – The Supreme Champion Market Steer Drive was held February 21st at the San Antonio Livestock Show & Rodeo. Over the course of 3 days over 1,419 steers were exhibited and narrowed down to fifteen Breed Champions and fifteen Reserve Breed Champions. Each exhibitor in the Grand Drive received a $10,000 scholarship. Sierra Jade Martin of Mason, Texas, was Reserve Champion Charolais with her steer “The Great Bambino.” Martin is a member of the Mason County 4-H club.

Gracie Belle is a little over a year old, and beautiful girl.  She is housebroken and crate trained.  She gets along well with other dogs, and is very gentle with her foster kitties!  Gracie would do well in an active home, or a home with other dogs that she can run and play with.

Kirsten Shaw won Reserve Grand Champion with her goat in San Antonio. She won the heavy weight division; but, after that, she went back into the ring and won the overall Reserve Grand. At the sale Thursday, her goat sold for $40,000! That is in addition to the $10,000 scholarship that she won.

San Marcos, Texas - February 24, 2014 -- Jonathan Martin a resident of Mason (76856) was one of the graduates during the 2013 fall commencement ceremonies at Texas State University. Martin received a Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Geography. Texas State is an emerging research university located in the Austin-San Antonio corridor on the edge of the Texas Hill Country.

Kirsten Shaw of Mason, Texas, took home a $10,000 scholarship for being the Heavy Weight Grand Champion. Shaw is a member of Mason County 4-H and enjoys playing softball, being 4-H Vice President and being involved in FFA.

February 12, 2014 (FHTNC)--Navy Seaman John W. Rocha, son of John P. Rocha of Austin, Texas and Tammy Gardner of Mason, Texas, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, Rocha completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety.

Ellie Blair, daughter of Michele and Paul Smith was accepted into the study-abroad program at Texas State University and is currently studying International Business in Mosbach, Germany. Ellie has made the Deans List at Texas State University for the last 2 years, will graduate in December 2014 and plans to continue her education towards her Masters.
