Mr. and Mrs. Scott Eaton and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Martin announce the marriage of their children Morgan Michelle Eaton and Thain Adam Martin on March 29, 2014, at Hilda United Methodist Church in Mason County, Texas. Rev. Wade Powell presided over the celebration of Christian marriage. Morgan is program director for Bluebonnet CASA in Mason.

On May 7th, students from Ms. Ericha Lange’s class attended a field trip to Morgan’s Wonderland in San Antonio. The weather was perfect and everyone had a great time, including our wonderful student aide, Kyndal Jarl.

Operation Orphans, Inc. hosted 40 girls from 3 residential children’s homes May 2nd and 3rd. The girls came to Mason county to enjoy a day fishing. Homes participating were Big Springs Children’s Home, Leakey; Presbyterian Children’s Home, Itasca; and Texas Boy’s Ranch, Lubbock. The girls enjoyed fishing at Runge Ranch, Zesch James River, Scott Zesch, Ewing Ranch, Dail Ranch, and Northcutt Ranch.

Scenes from ”The Last Night of Ballyhoo” advanced to STATE on Saturday at Brenham HS at the Region IV contest . They are now among the top 8! Region Awards: Cassie Benefield - Best Actress James Perlichek and Claudia Canfield - All Star Cast Elliot Bibb - Honarable Mention Cast Competition will be May 21 in Austin. Brynlee Halamicek is proud to announce the arrival of her little sister, Braxtyn Clare. She made her debut on April 3rd weighing six pounds, seven ounces, and was 18 inches long. Welcoming her into this world are her parents, Bobby and Kaylee Halamicek of Mason. Proud grandparents are Brent and Mitzi Drennan also of Mason, and Forrester and Mary Ellen Halamicek of Llano.

Alexandria Martinez will earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University during their May 9, 2014, commencement exercises. Alexandria will graduate magna cum laude, graduating in the top 10% of her graduating class. Alexandria earned Dean’s List honors all six semesters while at Sam Houston State University.

Proud big sister, Jaci Smith, along with her parents, Jacob and Misty Smith of Llano are delighted to announce the arrival of their new addition to the family, Madelyn Anna Lee Smith (Maddie) was born on February 11, 2014, at 11:58 a.m. at Hill Country Memorial Hospital in Fredericksburg. Maddie weighed eight pounds, nine ounces and was 21 inches long.

Swanna Suits Hornstein, born August 10, 1918, died January 30, 2014, in Navarre, Florida, after a lengthy illness. She was predeceased by her husband, Sheppard Yale Hornstein, on April 22, 2005. She is survived by her daughter, Lenore Newsom, son-in-law Tommy, and grandson Jake Newsom. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 4th, at 2:00 PM at the Newsom home, 810 Hofmann St.

At Area contest on April 12, 2014, critic judge Marc Pickell praised and encouraged the cast and crew after watching Mason High School’s performance of scenes from “The Last Night of Ballyhoo.” He loved the “world of the play“ they created, the effective pacing and the balance between humor and drama that the company achieved.

Mason Bank donated a new volleyball net for the Comanche Creek Park recently, and representatives of the bank met with City staff to take a look at the new installation. From left to right: Jacob Hernandez, Pete Munoz, Irene Martinez, John Palacio, Connie Stockbridge, Joe Martinez, Belinda Gainer. The bank had donated the first net for the court six years ago, and once again selected a durable net that should again last for a number of years.

Grace Christian School hosted the Hill Country Meet on April 9th. One hundred eighty-seven students from surrounding area participated in art, public speaking, academic bowl, track, basketball shoot-off, obstacle course, and writing events. Covenant Academy of Kerrville took home the trophy for most team points followed by Llano Christian academy in second place.

The Mason County Cancer Benefit's annual fundraising event will be held on Saturday, April 26th at Heritage Park from 11:00 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. Memory bags in honor of those battling cancer, cancer survivors or those who have lost their battle are currently available by contacting Chuck Bearden at 325.805.1303 or Jayme Silerio at 325.347.4891. The Riata Service Organization recently purchased a new Electrocardiogram machine for the Mason Clinic. This type of equipment is used often at the Clinic and Riata is pleased to be able to donate a new one.
