Jesse William Butler, Jr., age 68, of Mason, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2016, at his residence in Mason. He was born August 10, 1947 in Memphis, Tennessee to Jesse William Butler, Sr. and Violet Ophelia (Scott) Butler. He was a salesman for the Butterkrust Bread Company for many years.

Ruby celebrated her 91st birthday on Friday, January 22, 2016. On Wednesday, January 27, she passed away peacefully at Hill Country Memorial Hospital. Ruby was born at home in the Prairie Mountain Community. She was the middle child to Albert and Bernice Birk. She and her sisters Lorine and Vernell rode horseback or walked the 4 miles to attend school through the 8th grade. Ruby and Robert met at Idle’s in Fredericksburg on December 14, 1944.

Gordon G. Airheart, age 77, of Mason, Texas, passed away Friday, January 15, 2016, in Brownwood, Texas. He was born December 24, 1938, in Mason, Texas, to Walter Chester “Check” Airheart & Ethel Isabelle (Wickliffe) Airheart. He was a mechanic and worked for the Mason Independent School District for over 30 years.

Alex Howard Grosse was born February 4, 1925, on the best street in Mason, Rainey Street. His parents were Alex Egon and Alma Willmann, brother Billy Dick, and sister Jewel Grosse. He attended Mason schools and after graduating he joined the Navy. He served on the eastern U.S. coast during World War II.

Lonnie was born to Leonard J. Sturdivant and Iva Mae Keith Sturdivant on January 21, 1956, in Hobbs, NM. Lonnie was in Little League and Agriculture as a boy. He was always busy. Lonnie began driving big rigs and tractors at 15 years of age. I’m sure his favorite pastimes were roping in the rodeo and fishing.

Franklin Willard Brandenberger went to be with his Lord and Savior on 12/31/2015. He was born on his dad’s ranch near Hilda, Texas, on 8/6/1925 to his parents, Wesley and Esther Brandenberger. Franklin learned to drive at about 10 years old and had special permission to drive kids from his area of county to school.

Dell Roy King, of Kerrville, Texas passed away peacefully into the blue skies on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the age of 90. Dell Roy was born in Mason, Texas on October 16, 1925 to George Benjamin King and Hattie Emma (Simon) King. Dell Roy was a 1943 graduate of Mason High School and was the quarterback on the football team.

Genevieve Grace Mueller, of Brady, passed away on Monday, January 4 at the age of 75. Grace is survived by her son, James Cavaness McPherson, of Kerrville, two grandchildren, Emily Anna McPherson and Roger Grant McPherson, along with numerous friends and all those who love being in the country. Visitation with the family will be Thursday afternoon, January 7, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.

Bobby G. Caveness passed away on Monday January 4, 2016, at the Knopp Nursing and Rehab at the age of 87. Bobby was born to Ebb and Lona Millsap Caveness on June 1, 1928, in Mason County. CWO2 Merton D. Pepper, U.S. Army, retired, veteran of 23 ½ years, passed away on December 31, 2015, at the age of 81 1/2 after a lengthy illness. Merton was born on May 18, 1934, in Goshen, Indiana; the son of David A. Pepper and Opal V. Burson Pepper. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 ½ years Julia Ann Templin Pepper, his children, Sonia Haub of Stillwater, Oklahoma; Sabrina Figert and son-in-law Dario of San Angelo, Texas; sons Brent James and Steven of Mason, Texas.

U.S. Veteran Clifford Parker Sr., of Mason, passed away on Saturday, December 26, at the age of 79. Clifford was born on April 23, 1936 in Mason to A.N. “Gus” Parker and Ida Brawley Parker. He was raised in Mason and joined the Army in 1953 when he was 17. He made the Army his career and retired after 20 years of service.
