Born in the lovely hill country of Texas on January 14, 1932, John grew up playing both football and piano with equal talent. His interrupted college years found him in the U.S. Air Force Singing Sergeants with whom he toured the world. Finishing college after the Air Force, he was hired by the San Angelo Symphony Orchestra and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, playing both keyboard and percussion.

Paula Schreiber Hill, age 69 of Chestnut Hill, TN, passed away Sunday morning, August 2, 2015, at Physician’s Regional Hospital. She was an active member of the Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church where she served as church organist, member of the UMW and other committees of the church. She was preceded in death by her parents Elroy and Lois (Nixon) Schreiber of Mason, TX.

Charles Victor Lamorequx, 44, died on July 28, 2015. He was the only child of Charles W. Tanya Lamoreaux. Victor grew up in Northridge, California and moved to Mason, Texas in 2007. He loved all mechanical things; any pun; and dominoes. He could quote Monty Python skits as well as rendering Frank Sinatra tunes.

Leta Ferne Rutherford Walker, 80, of Claude, died Tuesday, July 28, 2015. Services were at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 30, 2015, at First Baptist Church in Claude with Rev. Jim Brown officiating. Grace Ray Davenport, of Mason, passed away on Thursday, July 30, in Brady, at the age of 98. She was born to Roscoe Merle Heyman and Grace (Ray) Heyman in Junction, Texas, on January 13, 1917. In an article, “Mason County Personalities”, by Emma Gene Jackson in the Mason County News in 1995, she shared her story.

Margaret D. Brown of Hilda passed away on July 20, 2015, in Austin, Texas, at the age of 79. Margaret was born to Daisy Durham on September 19, 1936, in San Antonio, Texas. Margaret married her high school sweetheart, Franklin Brown, on December 26, 1953. After retiring as an executive secretary from Southwestern Bell, Margaret retired with Frank to the Hill Country.

Wilma June Martin was born in Mason County, Texas, on September 19, 1924, to Ollie Dan and Lucy Prudence Polk Martin. She died suddenly in her home at Pipe Creek in the early morning hours of July 21, 2015, two months short of her 91st birthday. Services were held at the Mason Funeral Home in Mason Texas, with burial in plot near her parents’ graves in the Gooch Cemetery.

Jose Socorro Landeros, of Mason, passed from this life Monday, July 6, 2015, at the age of 75. He was born in Delores Mexico November 15, 1939, to the late Jose Carmen Landeros and Maria Soledad (Ruiz) Landeros. He became a United States Citizen December 7, 1965, in Brooklyn, New York, while stationed there.

Clifford Hilmar Lang passed away on July 4, 2015, at the age of 83. Clifford was born on September 23, 1931, and was a life-long resident of Castell, Texas. He was baptized and confirmed in St John Lutheran Church. A dedicated husband, father and stockman, Clifford was born and raised in western Llano County and spent his entire life working the land.
