Curtis Kuhlmann, of Mason, passed away on Friday, September 5, at the age of 85. He was born in Fredericksburg on December 4, 1928 to Harry and Wanda Burrer Kuhlmann. After graduating from high school in Fredericksburg, Curtis served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1949. After leaving the Navy, Curtis married Annabel Loth and had three children.

Curtis Kuhlmann, of Mason, passed away on Friday, September 5, at the age of 85. Visitation was held on Sunday evening, followed by graveside services on Monday, September 6, at Gooch Cemetery. A full obituary will be in next week's edition of the News. Funeral services under the direction of Mason Funeral Home.

Thomas “Jerry” Haines was born December 2, 1938, in Glasscock County, Texas, to Joe and Margret Turner Haines. At age two, they returned to Kimble County and he grew up on the home place on Little Saline Creek at London, Texas. He had a great love for sports, especially baseball.

Marie Metzger, of Mason, passed away on Monday, August 25, at the age of 94. Marie was born in Streeter, Texas, on October 31, 1919, to Alfred Otte and Rosa Jane (Pike) Otte. She was a graduate of Mason High School and a member of the Mason First United Methodist Church.

Felix Velez Jr., of Brady and formerly of Mason, passed away on Friday, August 22, at the age of 54. Visitation was Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7 following the visitation. Funeral services were held graveside at the Crosby Cemetery on Tuesday, August 26, at 10:30 a.m.

Leta Mae (Williams) Durst, 97, of Mason, passed away Wednesday evening, August 20, 2014. She was born Leta Mae Williams on December 19, 1916, to Henry and Ola Williams on the family ranch in Chesser Valley, Mills County. Leta Mae, born and raised, worked and lived near Mullin most of her life.

Walter H. “Sonny” Durst, age 89, passed away Monday morning August 25, 2014. He was born April 25, 1925 to parents, Walter A. Durst and Erna (Immel) Durst in Fredericksburg, Texas. He was a faithful member of Calvary Lighthouse Assembly of God in Mason, Texas. On September 30, 1943 Walter married Myrtle Mae Crouch in Brady, Texas.

Jane Brandon Hofmann Hoerster, 92, died on August 11th at Hill Country Healthcare Center in Llano, Texas. She was born to Otto Ernest and Della Mae Hofmann in Grit, Texas on June 9, 1922. Jane was the third of four daughters, The Hofmann Girls: Della Louise, Mary Maude, Jane Brandon, and Gloria Faye. On May 11, 1941, Jane married a local rancher, Franklin Roy Hoerster.

Ervin Edward Eckert of Doss, Texas, went to be with his Lord on Monday, August 11, 2014, at the age of 90 years. He passed away in the Fredericksburg Nursing Home in Fredericksburg, Texas. He was born on July 13, 1924, in the Salt Branch Community of Doss in Mason County at his grandparents’ home. He married Yvonne Harper on December 26, 1954, at First United Methodist Church, Mason, and she survives him.

Henry Joseph Hohn was born on June 12, 1934, to Henry H. and Elenora Kolodzey Hohn in Yorktown, Texas. He passed away on August 4, 2014. Henry’s education started in Catholic Elementary School where the nuns taught him to play the piano and the organ, which he enjoyed throughout his life.

Sarah May Brown, of Mason, passed away at her home on Friday, July 18, at the age of 73. Sarah was born in Mason on November 19, 1940, to John David Atchley and Ivy May Martin Atchley. She was a life-long resident of Mason County. Sarah married Elroy Brown on May 12, 1956, and their marriage was blessed with two children.
