Merle Hooks, 90, of Tomball, passed away peacefully Friday, March 29, at her residence. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend whose sweet and loving spirit will be greatly missed. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, April 3, at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home in Houston with visitation at 2 p.m.

Lucille Smith Jordan, of Mason and formerly of San Antonio, passed away on Friday, March 29, at the age of 95. Lucille was born and raised in Mason County. She attended TCU and spent most of her life in San Antonio where she was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

Ramona Kelso, of Mason, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, at the age of 84. Ramona is survived by her sister, Betty Kelso, of Mason and many cousins. Funeral services for Ramona Kelso were held on Thursday, March 28, at 10:00 a.m. at the Mason Funeral Home chapel. Interment followed in the Gooch Cemetery.

LaJean Burnett Ramey went to be with the Lord on March 25, 2012, in Midland, Texas. Services were held on Thursday, March 28 at 2:00 PM at The Mason Funeral Home with burial in the Gooch Cemetery in Mason, Texas. Mark Kirby officiated Visitation was Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home.

Bennie Carolyn (Crider) Roddie, 74, of Fredonia, Texas, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013, in Fredonia. Visitation was from 1 – 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Heritage Funeral Home in Brady. He grew up in Milano, Texas, and lived for many years in the Austin/Dripping Springs area before moving to Mason, Texas in 1985, where he met his wonderful wife and best friend, Elaine.

Hazel Marie Russell Barrington, 93, of Mason, Texas, passed away on March 20, 2013, at her residence. Hazel was born in Georgetown, Texas, on March 11, 1920. She was the youngest of eight children to Charles Thomas and Nora Ann Vann Russell. Being the last surviving member of her family, she was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, four brothers, and a beloved grandson.

Melba Rae Sgamba, 73, went home to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 14, 2013. Melba was born in Porterville, California, on August 15, 1939, to Stanley and Lois Sullivan. She was preceded in death by both parents. She is survived by her children: Debra Gayle McNutt, Michael Duane Pitts and wife Sandy, Stacy Lynn Johnson and husband Bob, Joseph Everett Perry, Randall Wayne Perry and Yvette Renee Entracaso.

William R. “Bill” Finley went to be with the Lord on March 10, 2013. Bill was born May 16, 1930, in Aurora, Colorado.  He attended Colorado A&M where he received a degree in Forestry Entomology.  He then entered flight school at Goodfellow Airforce Base in San Angelo Texas.  There, he met his beautiful wife Patsy Shearer, they were married for 58 years.

MONAHANS - Elva Lee Sanders, 101 of Monahans, died Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Monahans Managed Care Center. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Harkey Funeral Home Chapel with Owen Sharp officiating. Burial was at Resthaven Cemetery on Monday in Menard. Arrangements were by Harkey Funeral Home. She was born in Mason County, Texas.

Ruth E. Durst, age 83 of Kerrville, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2013, in a local care center. She was born November 25, 1929 in Harper, TX to James and Cora Lee (Rogers) Custer. On May 30, 1947, she married Lewis William Durst in Mason, TX. He preceded her in death on May 31, 2008.

Scott Paul Spencer, age 62, of Hilda, TX, passed away Monday, March 4, 2013. He was born to Frank Spencer and Dorothy Brinkoeter Spencer in San Antonio, Texas, on December 17, 1950. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank, and his sister, Beverly. Our beloved uncle, Charles Franklin Thomas, Jr., passed away on February 20, 2013, peacefully, in Fredericksburg, Texas, at the age of 91. Uncle Charles was born on October 21, 1921, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Charles Franklin Thomas, Sr. and Georgia Tabitha (Chenault) Thomas. When Charles was a baby, the family, which included his older sister Etta Carol (Thomas) Reed, moved to Brownsville, Texas.
