Swanna Suits Hornstein, born August 10, 1918, died January 30, 2014, in Navarre, Florida, after a lengthy illness. She was predeceased by her husband, Sheppard Yale Hornstein, on April 22, 2005. She is survived by her daughter, Lenore Newsom, son-in-law Tommy, and grandson Jake Newsom. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 4th, at 2:00 PM at the Newsom home, 810 Hofmann St.

Carter James Garcia, age 11 months, of Brady, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Cook Children’s Hospital in Ft. Worth from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident near Brady, Texas. Rachel Lynn Garza Garcia, age 20, of Brady, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014, in an automobile accident near Brady, Texas. Rachel was born August 23, 1993, in San Angelo, Texas, to Joe Jack Garza and Laurie Denise (Campbell) Garza. She was a lifelong resident of the Brady area. She worked as a private duty care giver and she attended the Christian Community Church in Brady.

Carrie Lee “Thompson” Perkins, age 81 of Devine, Texas passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Perkins; an infant son; daughter, Cynthia Perkins; parents, James W. and Manie Tart Thompson. She is survived by eight nieces and two nephews; many great nieces and nephews. Graveside service were held at 2:00 p.m.

Doug K. DeVos passed away on April 15, 2014, in Bay City, Texas, at the age of 27. He is survived by his wife, Jessie DeVos of Bay City, brother Kevin DeVos and his wife, Rachal, of Buda, father, Ken DeVos of Mason/Fredericksburg, and mother, Dana Wagner of Austin. Paul Edward Gips passed away April 8, 2014, days short of his 93rd birthday. He was born in Yorktown in 1921 to Paul F. Gips and Antonette Mollenhauer Gips. He graduated from Yorktown High School in 1939, then attended Texas Lutheran Junior College. He was starting tailback in football for two years, and starting guard for two years on the basketball team.

Felix was a retired Railroad Yard Master for the Frisco Railroad for 30 years.

Charles Ray Gober, 79, of Tye, TX, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014 in an Oklahoma City hospital. He was born on April 22, 1935, in Comanche County, TX to parents James Fishel Gober and Minnie Odessal Jackson Gober. Charles Ray moved to the Abilene area in 1955 and worked 44 years in the Maintenance Department of the Abilene Independent School District.

Roberta McMillan, of Mason, passed away peacefully at her home in Mason on Sunday, April 6. She was 91. Roberta was born on March 22, 1923, in Childress, Texas, to John Simpson Owen and Marie Feige Owen. She was a 1940 graduate of Mason High School and attended Texas Tech for two years. In 1934, Roberta joined the Methodist Church in Turkey, Texas.

Charles Ezra Cook of Refugio, Texas passed on to be with the Lord on March 28, 2014 at the age of 69. He was born January 24, 1945 in the U.S. Naval Hospital in San Diego, California to Cliffa Gene Lange Cook and Ezra Glen Cook. Charlie married Zehra Lale Kuzu on July 12, 1972 in Istanbul, Turkey.

Henry David McCormick, 81, of Amarillo died Friday, Feb. 14, 2014. Combination memorial service for David McCormick (died Feb. 14, 2014), 81 years old; and Helen McCormick (died March 1, 2013), 78 years old. Both of them died in Amarillo, Tx where they had lived for two years. Previous to that they had lived in Mason since 1997.
