The Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) has released the names of the Texas high school football players for its academic all-state teams. On Monday morning, the University Interscholastic League (UIL) released the 2016-2018 district alignments. For the upcoming two-year period, Mason will be in District 14-AA with the following schools: Brackettville, Harper, Junction and Sabinal for football. For basketball, Mason will be in District 27-AA with the following schools: Center Point, Harper, Junction and San Saba.

The JV boys basketball team had a very good week as they won both of their games. Against San Saba, the Punchers played very well as they went on to a dominating victory 42-26. All of the players were able to contribute. Next, Mason took on Center Point. Things started slow for the Punchers; but, late in the second half, they found their stride.

The freshman Punchers basketball team started out the week playing Junction on Tuesday. They came away with another district win with a score of 32-28. They followed the win up with a very close loss to Fredericksburg, with a final of 40-35.

The freshman Punchers started off last week with a huge win over Brady’s freshman boys. The Punchers were able to come away with a 42-20 win over the Bulldogs. They followed up this win with another one on Friday against the Junction freshman. This was a closer game with Junction causing problems in with their zone.

The JV boys played a very hard fought thriller against the Junction Eagles last Friday. Junction came out to a very quick start and was leading going into halftime. The Punchers came out the second half and started playing some very good basketball and clawed their way back into the game.

Last Tuesday, the basketball team played Menard and played really well taking the victory. That weekend, the team played two very good basketball teams in Llano and Brady. The Punchers dropped both of those games but rebounded the next day, beating Ballinger 40-38 in a thriller.

The freshman boys basketball team played Fredricksburg last Tuesday. The Punchers put up a good fight and played hard. However, they fell short with a score of 50-44, Fredicksburg coming away with a win. They also played in the freshman Brady Tournament this past weekend. They got third place going 3-1 with wins over: Abilene Wylie 37-34, Brady 37-34, and Ballinger 30-23.
