The 2015 Mason Tennis Team has been hard at work since school resumed in January preparing for the 2015 team and individual seasons. Both Varsity and JV teams have already participated in tournaments and are showing improvement by the week. Mason is going into the season with the task of replacing ten graduating seniors including six that were state champions or runners-up.

The boys' basketball teams played Johnson City last Tuesday night in Mason. The Punchers played very well as they won the game 50-38. The Puncher's offense was in sync as they got easy scoring opportunities in which they capitalized. The defense was also playing well, shutting down Johnson City’s leading scorer. After the victory the Punchers pushed their district record to 2-2. On Friday, Mason traveled to Harper to round out the first round of district.

The Punchers took on the Junction Eagles last Tuesday in Mason in what turned out to be a thriller. The Eagles beat the Punchers in their first meeting but it would not be the case this time around. After the Punchers jumped out to a commanding lead, the Eagles battled back to force the game to come down to the final seconds.

Last Tuesday, the Punchers traveled to San Saba to take on the Armadillos. The game turned out to be one of the closest games of the year as it went into overtime. The Punchers and the Armadillos were going toe to toe in which San Saba won at the end. The Punchers were forced to foul and San Saba made the free throws to win the game late in overtime 43-39. On Friday, the Punchers traveled to Center Point in their third district match up.

BRYAN – Quarterback Tanner Schaefer and linebacker Andrew Ezzell who helped Canadian win the Class 2A-Division I state championship are the players of the year on the Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association’s 2A football team. Schaefer, a junior, passed for 3,906 yards with 51 touchdowns to be the Offensive Player of the Year.

The boys JV basketball team lost a close hard fought game against San Saba last Tuesday 39-41. The game was tight from the very start. Both teams played hard. It came down to the last minute of the game and they deserve to win. On Friday the Punchers traveled to Center Point.

The Punchers opened district play against the Junction Eagles last Friday night. After a hard fought game, the Punchers were on the losing end 38-28. The Punchers played very good defense holding the Eagles to just 38 points. However the Puncher offense could not get rolling as they only scored 28.

The JV boys basketball team improved to 2-0 with a win over the Junction Eagles last Friday night. They played really hard from the beginning and had control for most of the game. The Punchers did hit a slow spot late in the 4th as the Eagles rallied to within 4 points.
