Friday night's matchup with Brackett had a lot of unique aspects. It began with a start time one hour earlier than usual due to the threat of rainfall for the area. After that beginning, it would be a night fans will well remember. Half way through the first quarter, the Punchers began pulling together their momentum and Seth Hudson sent a pass out to Evan Dayton who shot across the goal for the first score of the night.

The score from Friday night's victory of the Mason Punchers over the Junction Eagles doesn't begin to tell the tale of what a hard-fought game it was. The Punchers took the opening kickoff and began a slow, steady drive down the field. It would take almost half of that first quarter before Seth Hudson was finally able to break out on a quarterback keep and dive seven yards across the goal line.

The JV white team played another tough game against the hornets of Irion County. Turnovers hurt the Punchers and the Hornets capitalized and turn it into points. The final was 48-6. However the Punchers never stopped playing hard.

The junior high teams tallied up another win this week in a little bit different fashion, as a combo team. Center Point did not have enough for two teams so our 7th and 8th grade teamed up for a solid 26-20 win. Even though the 7th grade may have been outsized, they played hard.

7th The 7th grade boys played a hard fought game against the Harper Longhorns but tallied up their first loss of the season, 20-8; Kameron Torres scoring a touchdown and two-point conversion. It took them a little while to get going but played a strong game to finish it out.

The path to a district victory continued last Friday night when the Mason Punchers traveled to Center Point to take on the Pirates in their home stadium. The Punchers kicked it into gear on their first possession of the game, marching quickly down the field and capping the drive with an Americo Alvarez 16-yard rush for the score.

Last week, the JV Purple traveled to Harper to take on the Longhorns. The game started out rough with Harper causing a fumble on the first drive and taking it all the way back for the first score of the game. However, on the very next drive, Mason was able to march the ball down the field and tie it up at 8-8.

Mason continues its walk through district competition, this time defeating the neighboring Harper Longhorns on Friday night 50-10. Harper was the first to get points on the scoreboard, almost five minutes into the first quarter of play. The Longhorns had a sustained drive down into Puncher territory; but, with fourth down looming, they opted to go for a field goal which was good.

The JV white team played a great game against the Brownwood Lions on September 17th; but, came up a little short. The final score was 26-12. There were some good plays made by the Punchers and there were obvious improvements. The team is getting better each week.

7th vs. Rocksprings Our 7th grade Punchers won a hard fought game with dramatic ending to finish. Rocksprings scored on their 2nd drive of the game but other than that our defense played a solid game. We were able to steadily move the ball but were able to put the ball in the end zone only two times.

The high school cross country teams competed in Miles on Thursday, September 17th. The varsity girls brought home the runner-up team trophy behind Clyde, and the JV girls placed third behind Clyde and Sweetwater. The Mason Punchers made the long trek to Sabinal on Friday night to open up their district play. The folks in Sabinal were friendly and welcoming to our fans and players, and the Sabinal players exhibited great heart and sportsmanship. The scoring summary for the game is as follows: Seth Hudson passed to Pet Rochat who carried the ball 37 yards for the score.

7th The 7th grade Punchers had a solid game against the Goldthwaite Eagles. Our backs and receivers did an excellent job carrying out fakes and blocking on the perimeter and our linemen did a great job up front. Even our special teams was solid, chalking up a score on a kickoff return.

The Punchers and Cowgirls competed in the Jacob Krebs Cross Country Meet in Harper on Saturday, September 12th. The runners competed very well against very strong competition. The Varsity Cowgirls placed fourth as a team behind Fredericksburg, Kerrville Tivy, and Harper while missing four of the Varsity girls due to ACT tests.

Got into Friday night's much-hyped matchup between Mason and Goldthwaite, the two teams had met up 44 times, and both had 22 wins under their respective belts. By the end of the night, Mason would have 23 wins. The game had barely begun when Goldthwaite executed a tricky pitch and pass play and dove over the goal for the first points on the scoreboard.
