On October 1st the 7th and 8th grade competed in the Mason Invitational cross country meet. Both teams ran extremely well and have improved their times from our last meet! Each girl is continuing to improve every day and their hard work is paying off in the meets. From the first day of practice, I have seen each girl improve and that’s all I could ever ask for.

The Harper Longhorns found the Mason Puncher defense to be a tough obstacle last Friday. The Punchers kept their offense reigned in for most of the game, allowing younger and less experienced players the opportunity to spend time on the field; but, Harper still could not stop the Punchers when they began moving the ball. During the first quarter, the Punchers only scored twice.

Last Thursday, the JV Purple traveled to Junction to take on the Eagles. The Puncher defense started off the game with a fumble recovery on the opening drive. With the turnover they were able to take it down the field go up 7-0. The Punchers were able to hold on to the lead going into halftime up 15-6.

7th grade The seventh grade traveled to Rocksprings this past week and added another win to their record. They started out strong in the first half and jumped out to a 26-7 at half but let Rocksprings come back on them and scored 2 unanswered touchdowns. They were able to hold on to the lead with a 26-21 win.

The JV White team played a good game against Cross Plains last Thursday night, winning 26-14. The offensive line led the charge allowing for all four of the running backs to score a touchdown. The defense also played well as the Punchers were able to force and recover a fumble.

The start of 2014 district play began at home for the Punchers last Friday when they welcomed the Sabinal Yellowjackets to town. The Punchers wasted no time in making sure the Sabinal team knew where control of field would rest for the evening. Just a few plays into the game, Seth Hudson broke out and ran the ball 52 yards for Mason's first touchdown.

The Cowgirls and Punchers ran extremely well again this week at the Miles Bulldog Invitational meet. The varsity girls team won the meet with 29 points, while the closest contender, Miles, had a total of 93 points. The high school cross country kids will be competing in the Gem of the Hill Country 5K/10K this coming weekend.

7th grade The pouring down rain and muddy conditions didn’t stop the 7th grade as they piled up another victory. Our offenses and defenses played extremely well, scoring steadily throughout the game and holding the Eagles to a score late in the game. Scoring four times with the two-point conversions good on all four touchdowns, the 7th grade walked away with a 32-8 win. The JV traveled to Comfort last Thursday (Sep. 18) to take on the Bobcats. It was a hard fought game, however, they came up short. The final score of the game was 36-7. With the loss the JV record goes to 2-1 on the season.

The Mason Punchers extended their 2014 winning streak to 4-0 last Friday night, made all the sweeter in that it was a victory over the Goldthwaite Eagles. The Punchers took the opening kickoff, and it only took the first play of the possession for Miguel Castillo to break out on a 64-yard touchdown run and to put the Punchers on the scoreboard 19 seconds into the game.

7th grade Our junior high season opener was against Comfort and our 7th grade came out ready to play. On both sides of the ball we saw some great things. Our offensive line did a great job of blocking up front for our backs and receivers and our defense didn’t allow a score all game.

The Cowgirls and Punchers competed in the first two meets of the season at the San Saba Invitational on September 4th and the Early Season Bandera Bulldog Meet on September 10th. The Cowgirls placed 1st overall as a team against some very tough competition in both San Saba and Bandera.

One year ago, Comfort racked up the only early season victory over the Mason Punchers. In 2014, the Bobcats had every intention of repeating their 17-14 defeat of Mason; but, that did not happen. Instead, when Comfort arrived in Mason Friday night, they found a Puncher team that were ready for any challenge that they might throw out, and they had a few surprises for the Comfort team as well. The entire first half of the game was scoreless; but, it was some of the finest football the Punchers ...

The JV traveled to De Leon last Thursday and took on the Bearcats. The Puncher defense shut the Bearcats down, while the offense had no problem scoring on multiple occasions. The final score was 36-0 with the Punchers coming out with their second win of the season. The Puncher JV is now 2-0 on the season.

The Mason Punchers traveled to Ozona on August 29th for their season opener against the Ozona Lions. Lightning in the area delayed the start of the game by almost an hour and forty five minutes; but, the Mason faithful waited out the storms and were treated to a resounding Puncher victory. Early in the first quarter, Seth Hudson scored for the Punchers on a 4-yard rush.
