7th vs. Rocksprings Our 7th grade Punchers won a hard fought game with dramatic ending to finish. Rocksprings scored on their 2nd drive of the game but other than that our defense played a solid game. We were able to steadily move the ball but were able to put the ball in the end zone only two times.

The high school cross country teams competed in Miles on Thursday, September 17th. The varsity girls brought home the runner-up team trophy behind Clyde, and the JV girls placed third behind Clyde and Sweetwater. The Mason Punchers made the long trek to Sabinal on Friday night to open up their district play. The folks in Sabinal were friendly and welcoming to our fans and players, and the Sabinal players exhibited great heart and sportsmanship. The scoring summary for the game is as follows: Seth Hudson passed to Pet Rochat who carried the ball 37 yards for the score.

7th The 7th grade Punchers had a solid game against the Goldthwaite Eagles. Our backs and receivers did an excellent job carrying out fakes and blocking on the perimeter and our linemen did a great job up front. Even our special teams was solid, chalking up a score on a kickoff return.

The Punchers and Cowgirls competed in the Jacob Krebs Cross Country Meet in Harper on Saturday, September 12th. The runners competed very well against very strong competition. The Varsity Cowgirls placed fourth as a team behind Fredericksburg, Kerrville Tivy, and Harper while missing four of the Varsity girls due to ACT tests.

Got into Friday night's much-hyped matchup between Mason and Goldthwaite, the two teams had met up 44 times, and both had 22 wins under their respective belts. By the end of the night, Mason would have 23 wins. The game had barely begun when Goldthwaite executed a tricky pitch and pass play and dove over the goal for the first points on the scoreboard.

This past Thursday, the JV Purple went on the road to face Wall. This was a high scoring game, with the final score being 41-27. The game was back and forth through the first half. With some unfortunate penalties and turnovers the Wall Hawks were able to pull ahead in the third quarter.

The Puncher and Cowgirl cross country teams kicked off their seasons at the medal only meet in Comfort on August 29th followed by the Mason Invitational on September 2nd at the Fort Mason City Park. Being that the Comfort meet was a medal only meet, places were not given, and coaches timed their own runners.

7th The 7th grade Punchers started out their season the right way with a hard fought win against the Comfort Bobcats, 14-8. Our boys showed a lot of class and discipline in getting their first official win of the season. Scoring for the 7th grade were Matthew Kerr and Kameron Torres each scoring a touchdown and Ty Spencer scoring a 2 point conversion. 8th The 8th grade Punchers came out firing on all cylinders as they racked up their first win of the season against Comfort, 30-8.

This past Thursday, Comfort’s JV made the trip to Mason to take on the Punchers. This was a hard fought game. Going into halftime, Comfort held an 8-0 lead. However, with a pick six and a punt blocked for a touchdown, the Punchers found themselves down 24-0 very quickly in the third quarter.

Friday night's matchup against the Comfort Bobcats had even more meaning to Mason fans, as the Bobcats are now coached by former Mason Puncher Coach, Joey McQueen. Though the Bobcats broke Mason's string of shutouts, they weren't able to hold off the Puncher offense. Early in the first quarter, Mason made a slow drive down field, ending with a 35 yard by Seth Hudson for the Puncher's first score of the night.

The Punchers had a slow start last Friday; but, came back in the second half to notch their second victory of the regular season over the DeLeon Bobcats. During the first quarter, the Punchers didn't allow much traction from the Bobcats, holding them from any scoring opportunities. It would be more than half way through the quarter before Sophomore Emanuel Martinez made the final carry for the Punchers and got 6 points on the board.

The JV White traveled to Irion County last week and played a hard fought game; but, came up a bit short. The final score was 46-8. The Punchers put together an impressive drive late in the game to put some points on the board. This week the JV White team will play De Leon JV in Mason, Thursday Sept.

The JV purple played their season opener at Ozona last Thursday. Ozona took the opening drive and busted a 60 yard run down the sideline to take the lead 8-0. The Punchers would answer on the next drive tying it up 8-8 with a 60 yard drive that was capped off with a QB sneak for 1 yard by Tyson Keller.

The first regular game of the 2015 season saw the Mason Punchers welcome the Ozona Lions to the Puncherdome last Friday night. The Ozona team has been going through a rebuilding process; and, on Friday night, they still weren't able to pull together enough resistance to stop the Punchers. The Mason team has a lot of new personnel in key positions; and, a large contingent of senior players.
